How much emergency savings do I need?

There isn't one magic number for everyone. A useful starting point is to consider your essential monthly costs and how long you would want savings to cover them if something unexpected happened. A commonly used guide is around three to six months of essential expenses, although building that much may not be realistic immediately.

An emergency fund is less about maximising returns and more about buying yourself breathing space if income falls or an unexpected cost arrives.

Your emergency fund isn't just money sitting in a bank account. It's time, options and breathing space.
