Revenue

Business

WHAT IS IT?

Revenue is the income generated from selling goods or services before deducting costs and expenses.

IN PLAIN ENGLISH

It is the money value of your sales, not the amount you keep as profit.

SIMPLE EXAMPLE

If a business sells 1,000 items at £20 each, revenue is £20,000 before costs.

WHY DOES IT MATTER

Revenue is an important starting number, but it does not tell you whether the business is profitable.

THE ROCKET TEST

Revenue is what the business generates from sales before costs are deducted.
